How we advise

If we are not the right fit, we will tell you who is

We will tell you what is best for your business before we tell you what we sell. When that is not us, we point you at whoever it is. A company that runs well matters more to us than a company limping along on our invoice.

Sentry Monitoring · our own protection suite

No contracts for IT work in Louisiana; Sentry is the one exception, on purpose. A single annual license keeps watch over your network, hardware and software all year, so problems get seen before they become emergencies.

Fake “Windows Security” Virus Pop-Up Scam: What to Do Now

MicrosoftWindows
Who is affected

Anyone using an internet-connected computer is potentially at risk, as this scam relies on active internet access to target users.

What to do now

Don’t click anything on the pop-up, including buttons that say “Run a test,” “Close” or “Cancel.” Don’t call the phone number on the screen. Close the browser tab. If it won’t close, press Esc to leave full-screen, then close it. If it still won’t close, restart your computer. When your browser opens again, don’t restore the old tabs. Start fresh. Still worried? Run the antivirus that’s actually installed on your computer, or call someone you trust. Already called the number or let someone into your computer? Disconnect from the internet, and call your bank from a different device.

Why it matters

These pop-ups are built to look official and to make you panic, so it’s easy to act before you think. The pop-up itself does no harm. The danger starts when you click or call: that’s when a fake “technician” gets into your computer or takes your money for a problem that was never there. Knowing what this scam looks like ahead of time is the easiest way to close it and move on.

Advisory

Who is affected

A client called us in a panic. His custom AI system, call it Marty, looked like it had gone insane. It was babbling about not knowing who it was, files were vanishing, and he was afraid he had been hacked.

What to do now

Here are the eight rules that came out of it, each one paired with the fix, so you never have to make the same call he did.

Why it matters

This is the kind of thing we mean by prevention over reaction. Every one of these was cheap to prevent and expensive to clean up after.

How our security alerts work, and what each level means

Everything we support
Who is affected

Every client. Nothing to do with this one, it explains the other ones.

What to do now

We post here when something is worth telling clients about, before it shows up in your inbox as a problem. Every alert carries one of three levels.

Why it matters

Most of the messes we clean up started with a warning somebody did not see. This page is where the warning lives.

Advisory

Restart your browser when the update badge appears

ChromeEdge
Who is affected

Everyone. Browser fixes for actively exploited flaws ship inside routine-looking updates.

What to do now

An update is not applied until the browser restarts. When the badge shows, finish what you are doing and restart the same day.

A dated public record of what we are watching.
